An essential part of our business are our software products for the information technology sector. Therefore, a sustainable and long-term focused structure and a future-oriented set-up of our Geodata Informationstechnologie GmbH in Graz is of essential importance for the entire GEODATA Group. Since September 1st, 2023 our location in Graz is under the new management of Hella Riedl-Rabensteiner, MSc and DI Max Krieger as managing directors. The team of Geodata IT GmbH in Graz is currently working intensively on GeodataHub, our new integration platform for IT applications, such as the monitoring platform KRONOS and DEDALOS for 3D point cloud processing . We are proud that with Mrs. Riedl-Rabensteiner and Mr. Krieger we could motivate two young talents to take responsibility and to work on a successful future for GEODATA. Mrs. Riedl-Rabensteiner has already proven her talent in recent years and in different positions in the area of commercial and management assistance. Mr. Krieger was already working for us as a student, has in the meantime completed his surveying studies in Graz and has decided for a common future with Geodata.
Our young and motivated team is looking forward to working with you in the future!
On 16 August, the breakthrough was celebrated during the excavation of the running tunnel “T4” into the main shaft at Friedrich Schmidplatz in the construction lot U2/22-Rathaus. This construction section is part of the overall U2/U5 line interchange project. The newly designed Rathaus station is the crossing point between the new U5 line and the existing U2 line and is located in a densely built-up inner-city area.
Geodata has been commissioned by the contracted consortium to carry out the construction and tunnelling surveying and to supply and install the geotechnical instrumentation. We congratulate our construction site team on their successful work!

The project section Marchtrenk-Wels is part of the four-track extension of the Western Railway between Vienna and Salzburg. The project section extends over a length of seven kilometres. In addition to the construction of two new tracks, the existing double-track line will be completely renovated and the Marchtrenk railway station and the Wels switchyard will be rebuilt. Along the route, bridges, noise walls, retention basins and adjacent public roads will be reconstructed or rebuilt. The Wels terminal and the adjacent switching station will also be extensively rebuilt. New switches have to be installed for the integration into the new line, crane tracks for container handling will be extended, the handling tracks in the terminal will be newly integrated into the western railway in an easterly direction and some new buildings will be erected.
We were commissioned by the Austrian Federal Railway (ÖBB) to create and check the fixed point network, stake out and check the substructure and superstructure and all track systems and railway engineering installations (overhead line and signalling systems, control and communication equipment). In addition, geotechnical monitoring measurements (e.g. for pipe pressing), the surveying support of bridge load tests, the setting back of property boundaries and cadastral final surveys are part of the scope of services.
A key aspect for the medium to long-term development of the Geodata Group is succession management. For us this means the sustainable filling of our key corporate positions and functions. Gathered under the term GEODATA_2026 we are currently focusing on some of these positions, which will lead to some organizational changes in the coming months. Already now, we are pleased to announce an important organizational adaptation. Starting 1st of June 2023, Mr. Christof Kary will take over the position from Mr. Herbert Seeberger and the department management of our Industrial Surveying department. Mr. Seeberger will take over the administrative tasks in the department with slightly reduced working hours. The management would like to thank both gentlemen for their previous work and wishes them continued success in their new positions!
Good luck!
Together with the University of Vienna and ETH Zurich, the geophysics department of GEODATA organized a workshop on “The Role of Near-Surface Geophysics and Engineering in Renewable Energies and Low-Carbon Economy Transition” in the course of the EAGE-Conference 2023 (European Association of Geoiscientists and Engineers; Messe Wien, 4.6. – 9.6). In addition to keynote presentations, there was also a panel discussion with representatives of the geophysical service industry (DMT, Global Maritime), Wien Energie, and representatives of applied research. The interesting results and insights will be summarized and published in a short article.
On Monday, 20 February, Asfinag will start the general refurbishment of the Upper Austrian A9 Pyhrn motorway between Inzersdorf-Kirchdorf and Klaus an der Pyhrnbahn. Until June 2025, four tunnels and their electrical safety installations will be repaired on the entire carriageway in the approximately nine-kilometre-long section, alternating on both lanes. These include the Tretter, Ottsdorf, Kremsurprung and Hinterburg tunnels. In the Ottsdorf tunnel, the tunnel ceiling has to be lifted due to the new ventilation technology. The work will last until June 2025.
Our Geodata Upper Austria branch was commissioned with the surveying work accompanying the rehabilitation of this construction project.
