A major milestone has been achieved in the construction of the Brenner Base Tunnel with the successful breakthrough of both main tunnel tubes beneath the Austrian-Italian border. Around 1,400 metres below the Brenner Pass, a continuous underground connection between the Austrian and Italian tunnel sections has now been established.
GEODATA contributed significantly to this achievement by providing comprehensive surveying and documentation services within Lot H53 Pfons–Brenner. Our scope of work included construction surveying, excavation guidance, primary control network surveying, and complete tunnel documentation using high-precision tunnel scanning technology.
Particularly noteworthy is the accuracy achieved during the breakthrough. Despite the considerable distances involved and the challenging geological conditions, the alignment deviation was limited to only a few centimetres. This result highlights the quality of the surveying work and the excellent collaboration between all project partners.
The Brenner Base Tunnel is one of Europe’s most important infrastructure projects and will play a key role in shifting traffic from road to rail in the future. We are proud to contribute our expertise to the successful realization of this landmark project.
