Work has begun on the Pumped Storage Plant Forbach

The conversion of the Forbach storage power plant in the northern Black Forest in Germany, which was commissioned in 1914, into a pumped storage power plant will significantly increase the plant’s efficiency. The work includes the cavity construction of caverns, water reservoirs and tunnels, the shell construction of the power station cavern, the construction of two pressure shafts and special civil engineering work. The tunnel system has a total length of 5,200 metres. In addition, around 510 metres of shaft will be constructed using the raise boring method. The volume of the underground water reservoirs is 200 million litres.

Geodata was commissioned with the surveying services by the construction company Porr in a consortium with Angermeier Ingenieure. These include construction and tunnelling surveying, geotechnical measurements including the supply of instrumentation, tunnel scanning and the provision of our KRONOS data integration platform.
