Sesto and San Candido Flood Hazard Study

Project description

A study was carried out between the South Tyrolean municipalities of Sesto and San Candido for the project planning of measures to reduce the risk of flooding in the municipalities. For this purpose, a routing variant of a drainage gallery was investigated.

Location: South Tyrol; Italy

Client: Autonomous Province of Bolzano South Tyrol, Agency for Civil Protection

Performance Period: 2020 – 2021

GEODATA services:

The geophysical measurements for the preliminary geological exploration included a combination of borehole measurements (up-hole and VSP) with surface measurements (2D multi-electrode geoelectrics and seismics (PreStack-Time Migration, 3D Tomographie)). The project was mainly challenging due to the prevailing weather conditions and the difficult to access alpine terrain and the associated logistical effort of the measurements. The main objective was to explore or determine the contact between the two predominant lithological units, Sesto Conglomerate and Quartz Phyllite.
