Project description
An underground cavern storage facility and a cavern power plant are being built to replace the existing machinery at the Murgwerk and Schwarzenbachwerk plants. Together with the existing equalising reservoir, these components form the new lower stage. The Schwarzenbach dam serves as the upper reservoir. After being used in the cavern power plant, the water is collected in the cavern storage facility and the balancing reservoir. If necessary, it can be transported from here back to the Schwarzenbach dam via the cavern power plant’s pump turbine and later used again to generate electricity.

GEODATA service:
ARGE Geo Forbach, consisting of Geodata and Angermeier Ingenieure, has been commissioned to carry out construction and tunnelling surveying and geotechnical measurements for the entire construction project. The contract includes the provision of motor laser systems, tunnel scanner recordings, gyro measurements, optical 3D displacement measurements and the delivery and installation of geotechnical instrumentation consisting of extensometers, piezometers and anchor strain gauges with automatic remote data transmission for the cavern. Our KRONOS software package is used for data management.
